Fan Clutches

As part of these cooling packs, we offer fan clutches that are selected according to the application. There are three different possibilities: viscous clutches, electronic clutches and magnetic-pneumatic clutches.

A fan clutch allows a fan to be “switched off” when sufficient ram cooling air moves through the engine water cooler, as is the case during cold start-up. The idea of “switching the fan off” is to reduce energy wastage by not propelling the fan and to reduce noise levels – a critical feature for modern machines on the building site in highly populated cities. That means more power is available to drive the vehicle.

Viscous clutches are very reliable and efficient. It is a very economical component compared to other clutches. Switching is controlled by a bi-metal strip in the airstream behind the engine water cooler, by sensing the air temperature behind the radiator, thus switching the clutch to engage the fan at the design point.
